Six Flags Fright Fest events are arranged alphabetically, by state. This page includes California to Marylandd

California

Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia (near Los Angeles), CA

  • 2013 dates: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Oct. 4 to 27.
  • For more info: Fright Fest official page.

Haunted mazes include The Aftermath, a post-apocalyptic no-man's land, and Cursed, which features the lovely combination of gypsies and werewolves. New mazes include Toyz of Terror and Total Darkness. All of the mazes require the purchase of a wristband for admission. Special Halloween-themed shows include Demon's Door and the dance party, Voodoo Nights. It's become a Fright Fest tradition to run the wooden coaster, Colossus, backwards, and to run other coasters such as X2 and Tatsu in the dark. Magic Mountain will also offer a more mild "Chilling Thrills by Day" area in Bugs Bunny World with crafts, a trick-or-treat trail, and the Looney Tunes characters decked out in their Halloween finest.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo (near San Francisco), CA

  • 2013 dates: Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 28 through October 27, plus Fridays, October 18 and 25
  • For more info: Fright Fest official page.

2013 info: Fright Fest will feature the haunted maze, Total Darkness, and the scare zones, Mt. Rotting Cemetery and Arachnid Alley (spoiler alert: I'd expect the creepy crawlies to be considerably bigger than itsy bitsy spiders). Monstertainment shows will also be presented. During the day, Discovery Kingdom caters to younger kids with trick or treat stations, cookie decorating, a talking pumkin, and other activities.

Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia, Austell (near Atlanta), GA

  • 2013 dates: Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 28 through October 27, plus Friday, October 25
  • For more info: Fright Fest official page

Haunts include Dr. Fright's Frightorium (which, I am surmising, should be, um, frightening) and the Terror Train. There will also be themed shows such as Dr. Fright's Dead Man's Party (the Dr. sure gets around) and Grouchy Griswold: Insult Comic. (You might want to stay away from the front row for that performance.) During the day, younger kids can enjoy more mild events including trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, and spooky stories.

Illinois

Six Flags Great America, Gurnee (near Chicago and Milwaukee), IL

  • 2013 dates: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Sept. 28 to Oct. 27 plus Monday, October 14 (Columbus Day) and Thursdays, October 17 and 24.
  • For more info: Fright Fest official page

2013 info: Six Flags Great America will present a daily Zombie Jamboree Parade to kick off the event. Also look for five haunted houses (which require an extra fee). For younger kids, special attractions will include a trick-or-treat trail.

Maryland

Six Flags America, Mitchellville (near Washington, D.C.), MD

  • 2013 dates: Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 28 to Oct. 27 plus Fridays, October 18 and 25
  • For more info: Fright Fest official page

The haunted attractions include Carn-Evil, a circus-themed freak-fest, and Blood Factory, a haunted walk-through attraction in a seriously messed up industrial setting. Fright Fest performances include the magic show, Stage Fright. For the young 'uns, the park will offer activities such as a trick-or-treat trail, a costume contest, and a not-so-scary Kiddie Hayride.

The next page features Fright Fest events at Six Flags parks in Massachusetts to Texas, plus La Ronde in Canada.
