Great Adventure's coasters include Nitro, a world-class hypercoaster, and Medusa, a highly regarded floorless coaster. Not all of the park's coasters and other rides were operating on the day that Kingda Ka malfunctioned. The Runaway Mine Train coaster and both sides of the Batman and Robin: The Chiller magnetic launch coasters were closed. One side of the dual-track wooden racing coaster, Rolling Thunder, was closed as were three seats on the one train that was operating. The flying coaster, Superman--Ultimate Flight, and the looping steel coaster, Great American Scream Machine, were down for part of the day. Other shuttered attractions included the Movietown Water Effect splashdown ride, Houdini's Great Escape illusion ride, and the motion simulator ride, SpongeBob SquarePants 3-D.
"It was a challenging day," Siebeneicher says. She anticipates that all coasters and rides, other than Kingda Ka, will be open and operating shortly. "We're working diligently to get Kingda Ka back up and running as soon as possible." To check on the status of Kingda Ka, visit Six Flags Great Adventure's Web site.
