Number 10 Most Overrated Roller Coaster: The Time Machine
Freestyle Music Park (used to be Hard Rock Park) in Myrtle Beach, SC
Note that Freestyle Music Park closed after one season in 2009, and The Time Machine is standing but not currently operating.
The Time Machine debuted as Led Zeppelin: The Ride when Hard Rock Park opened in 2008 (and subsequently closed that same year.) There's nothing particularly terrible about it. But the impressive-looking coaster, which is the signature attraction at the small park, has almost no airtime, shudders a bit as it delivers a few head-banging moments, and is largely nondescript. But the biggest disappointment is the coaster's changed theme.
When the new owners of Freestyle Music Park tossed the Led Zeppelin theme, they also tossed the great Zep pre-show and the wonderfully synched "Whole Lotta Love" onboard audio. Instead, there is no pre-show, and the soundtrack now features random snippets of tunes from the 60s to the present. Sorry, but the Monkees' Davy Jones ain't no Robert Plant.
