Overview:
The 20-acre park within a park offers the usual assortment of slides and other rides, and SeaWorld ups the ante with lush a South Seas theme as well as the integration of animal exhibits. After tackling twisting, turning, over-banked water slides, visitors can meander into a simulated tropical reef for encounters with stingrays.
Perhaps the most intriguing combination of water park ride and animal meet-up can be found aboard Stingray Falls, one of the featured attractions. The family raft ride, which accommodates four passengers, navigates a harrowing course before depositing riders in an underwater grotto. There they can view tropical fish and other sea creatures in a large tank embedded alongside the ride. Another family raft ride, Walhalla Wave, sends its passengers racing up a sheer wall where they experience a moment of weightlessness before falling back to earth.
Formerly known as Lost Lagoon, SeaWorld spruced up the existing rides, added some new ones, incorporated the animals, and adorned the area with tropical plants and a colorful new look when it rechristened the water park as Aquatica in 2012. The embelishments take it to a whole different level among Texas water parks. A sister Aquatica at SeaWorld Orlando provided the inspiration and template, although the Florida park is considerably bigger and offers more attractions than its Texas counterpart.
Dining options inside Aquatica, like most of the SeaWorld parks, are a cut above standard park fare. Choices include wraps, salads, sandwiches, and tempting desserts, along with the ubiquitous hamburgs, fries, and pizza.
