California Ride Guide- Six Flags Magic Mountain and Other Parks

Despite its high-concept theme, Terminator: The Coaster will be a fairly standard woodie.

Six Flags 2008. Used with permission.
Despite the roller coaster economy, there'll be plenty of attractions debuting at California parks in 2009--including a roller coaster. This page features California parks with the exception of the Disneyland Resort. The preceding page has details about what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The Guide is in alphabetical order by the name of the park.

California's Great America
Santa Clara (near San Francisco), CA
All Wheels Extreme, a sports stunt show with skateboarders, BMX riders, and other performers

Legoland California
Carlsbad (near San Diego), CA
Bob the Builder and the Roller Coaster 4-D attraction. The 10-minute presentation will feature 3-D footage (yup, goofy glasses required) and "4-D" sensory effects such as wind and spritzes of water. Note that this is a theater presentation and not an actual coaster.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Vallejo (near San Francisco), CA
Odin’s Temple of the Tiger exhibit

A new exhibit area for the park's Siberian and white Bengal tigers.

Six Flags Magic Mountain
Valencia (near Los Angeles), CA
Terminator: The Coaster

It's a bit curious to have a wooden coaster themed to the Terminator sci-fi film franchise. But the coaster ride itself, which is being designed and built by the acclaimed Great Coasters International, should be wonderful. Read more about Terminator: The Coaster.

Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal City, CA
Creature From the Black Lagoon- A musical production.

The Broadway-caliber show will replace the Fear Factor presentation. It will reportedly feature "the exotic sounds and scents of the jungle" along with over-the-top production numbers. The retro, Smell-O-Vision musical may not be quite as crazy as it first sounds. For one thing, Creature taps into the studios' horror film legacy and celebrates Universal's unique contribution to popular culture. For another, the studio is planning a 2009 remake of the classic film. If the show is done with the proper amount of (black) tongue in (green) cheek, it could be a load of fun and a big hit.
