Then-Vice President "Tricky Dick" Richard Nixon and his family help Walt Disney cut the ribbon for the Disneyland Monorail in 1959. At the time it was the only such system in the Western Hemisphere and was a novelty. Although it serves as a means of transportation at the park today, the monorail was considered a Tomorrowland attraction in its early years.
