According to the park, eight riders will break off into two teams of four. The "chocolate" and "peanut butter" teams will each board separate ride vehicles that will move through the ride in tandem. Each player will be armed with a laser gun to rack up points by shooting at targets. The ride will tally each car's cumulative score and will designate a team winner at the end of the ride.
Hersheypark is claiming that Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge will be "the world's first interactive dark ride to pit car against car in multi-sensory laser competition." Strictly speaking that may be true, but the wonderful Men in Black Alien Attack at Universal Studios Florida does pit the players in two vehicles against each other for part of the ride. While Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge won't be nearly as sophisticated as Universal's attraction, it will bring a high-tech dose of dark ride fun to Hersheypark.
No, Not THAT Kind of a Sports Cup
In addition to using the chocolate/peanut butter theme, Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge will also incorporate extreme sports tableaus throughout the ride, including hockey, BMX biking, drag racing, in-line skating, and snowboarding. The scenes will include animatronic figures and special effects to enhance the experience.Regardless of which team wins or loses, all players will receive a sample Reese's product at the end of the ride. Hersheypark expects to debut the ride in spring 2006 when it opens for the season.
