Cypress Gardens' cool little coaster isn't the least bit concerned about breaking any records. It's a fun coaster that nearly everyone in the family can enjoy.

Short and Sweet

Triple Hurricane is a modern-day equivalent of the old wood coasters that once proliferated at parks during the early 20th-century heyday of the thrill machines. Built especially for Cypress Gardens (as opposed to some of the other off-the-shelf coasters in the park), Triple Hurricane is a tame, short ride--perhaps a little too tame and short. But its brief, mild presentation makes it accessible to even the most coaster-phobic, and it can serve as a great proving ground for younger kids who are ready to try out their first "real" coaster.

Instead of a traditional lap bar, the safety bars don't ratchet and rest on top of the car. The cars do not offer seat belts. Also, unlike most contemporary wood coasters, the two-person cars do not have any seat dividers. Riders therefore slam into one another, but because the ride offers only a couple of curved sections of track (one at the turnaround, and one to return to the station) and no banked track, the slamming is minimal.

After climbing 40 feet, the first drop plunges perhaps 30 feet--enough to impart a twinge of adrenaline, but not enough to deliver any significant airtime. A second drop follows, and that leads into the turnaround. Triple Hurricane then races along the park's midway into a series of bunny hops and, less than a minute before it began, arrives back at the loading station. Overall, the ride is quite smooth.
