What's New at California Theme Parks for 2012

Among the highlights of what's new at California theme parks in 2012, Disney California Adventure will be completing its major facelift.

It's going to be a particularly exciting year for park fans as Disney California Adventure completes its $1.1-billion transformation from also-ran to Walt-worthy with the opening of Cars Land. Speaking of transformation, Universal Studios Hollywood will bring the mega robots-that-change-into-other-stuff franchise to life with a high-octane Transformers ride. The Six Flags parks, meanwhile, will be doing what they do best, and opening some diabolical thrill rides.

Disneyland Resort

Cars Land, Goofy's Sky School, Disney California Adventure Expansion, and Let the Memories Begin
The big news at Mickey's original theme park home will be the wrap-up of the massive Disney California Adventure overhaul and the introduction of its new centerpiece, Cars Land. Throughout 2012, the entire resort will extend the "Let the Memories Begin" event that began in 2011 at the US Disney parks. As part of the promotion, guests will continue to have the opportunity to see their images projected onto the outside of it's a small world [sic] at Disneyland as part of a heart-tugging nightly show.

One More Disney Day
Also in 2012, Disneyland will celebrate leap year by keeping its park open for a 24-hour marathon. Plus it will be giving away vacations and offering a special hotel package.

SeaWorld San Diego

Pirate Reef
Aye mateys. Thar'll be a shoot-the-chute ride (with pirate boats made to look like they're constructed with Legos) that will drop you 25 feet and get you all wet.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Superman Ultimate Flight
