E-Tickets

Parkdom's best of the best

By Arthur Levine, About.com

Back in the days when Disneyland used alphabet-coded tickets, an "E-Ticket" was the most coveted because it allowed entry into the park's very best attractions. (You might think the park would have used an "A" to designate its top-tier rides, but it created a five-category system, "A" through "E," in ascending order.) Today, Disney's one-price admission has made the policy obsolete but the E-Ticket legend lives on. Your About.com Guide goes out on a limb and reveals his nominations for the best park attractions, coasters and other candidates worthy of an E-Ticket.

Best Themed Attractions
Your About Guide's top picks. They may not be the tallest, fastest or scariest, but these attractions combine storytelling, ride elements, technology and more to immerse guests in themed environments and transport them to the places of their dreams. Some are timeless, some are cutting-edge, all represent parks' crowning achievements.

Best Roller Coasters
Your About Guide's top picks. Coasters remain the undisputed champs of amusement parks. While the basic concept hasn't changed since coasters were first introduced, new technologies and innovations are allowing designers to break, on a regular basis, previously unthinkable thresholds. They are also able to produce an enormous variety of unique, if terrifying, coaster experiences. The quest for coaster nirvana is ongoing; the Best Roller Coasters list therefore, will evolve.

Z-Tickets: The 10 Worst Things About Theme Parks
I'm coining the term "Z-Tickets" to highlight what I think are among the worst that theme parks have to offer. Not individual attractions per se. Think of Z-Tickets as the citations that fans like you would write if you could issue a citizen's arrest to theme park, water park, and amusement park officials.

12/5/02 Theme park travel guide writers Rick and Gayle Perlmutter offer their list of the things they believe every Walt Disney World visitor should experience. From dining tips to attraction must-sees, check these recommendations before you visit the Mouse.

Other Park Bests

2003 Top Ten Theme Parks
14 million people marched down Main Street U.S.A. at the Magic Kingdom in Florida's Walt Disney World in 2003, according to "Amusement Business" magazine. No wonder the place feels a little crowded. As we bid adieu to the year that was, discover the other nine parks that make up the top-ten list for the most attended North American theme parks.
