2004 About Theme Parks

5/25/04 Whoa Daddy! It's the New Mummy Ride
Universal incorporates so many innovations into its utterly unique dark ride/coaster, it has coined a new label for Revenge of the Mummy: psychological thrill ride. But the ride also unleashes physical thrills, including a surprisingly potent coaster experience, to produce a wild, kinetic, frenetic attraction. It's another 5-star attraction for Universal. Read my review.

5/25/04 Mummy vs. Mummy: How the California and Florida Mummy Rides Differ
Although they are essentially the same, the Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida versions of the Revenge of the Mummy ride have some subtle--and some not-so-subtle--differences.

5/21/04 Mummy Mania
About Theme Park's exclusive photos of the Revenge of the Mummy ride's festive opening ceremonies at Universal Studios Florida.

5/11/04 The Tower of Terror Rises (and Falls and Rises) Again
The Tower of Terror just had its grand opening in California, while the Florida version celebrated its tenth anniversary. It is a modern-day classic Disney theme park attraction. Combining a thrilling freefall ride, dazzling effects, and an inspired and fiendishly clever storyline based on the seminal "The Twilight Zone" television series, Disney Imagineers have created a ride that, like a select few E-ticket attractions, is so much greater than the sum of its parts. Read my review. Includes a comparison of the Florida and California versions of the ride.

4/27/04 We Don't Need no Stinkin' Coaster Cars
Scream- Ride out Loud, one of Six Flags Magic Mountain's many signature coasters, is among the best of its breed--a floorless coaster with some serious attitude. Floorless coasters, for the uninitiated, have no floor. (Duh!) They also have no coaster car to speak of--they're essentially flying seats. Check out my review and photo gallery of Scream.

4/20/04 In the Zone
Do you want to see what the new Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's California Adventure looks like? You've come to the right place. The ride opens to the public on May 5, but I've got some exclusive pre-opening photos of the attraction. The California version is essentially similar to the legendary ride that's celebrating its tenth anniversary at Disney-MGM Studios in Florida. With its proximity to Tinseltown, the Disneyland version rings truer, however. I'll be posting a complete ride review shortly. For now, you can ogle the photos.

3/30/04 Slip Sliding Away: What's New at Water Parks for the 2004 Season?
There will be water, water everywhere this year: new water parks, re-themed water parks, new water park attractions, new indoor water parks. It seems we just can't get enough water ride fun, and parks are only too happy to oblige us. Let's take a look at some of this year's highlights.

3/16/04 The Question: Scooby-Doo, Where are You?
The answer: Paramount's King's Dominion in Virginia. Read about Scooby-Doo's Haunted Mansion interactive dark ride as well as the new Star Trek attractions in Germany and Las Vegas, new rides coming to California's Legoland, and more new stuff coming to theme parks and amusement parks this season.

3/2/04 Take These New Coasters for a Spin-- The 2004 Coaster Class
Check out the 2004 North American roller coaster crop, including Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios parks in Hollywood and Florida, Journey to Atlantis, the hybrid coaster/flume coming to SeaWorld San Diego, Hersheypark's launched coaster, Storm Runner, the Borg Assimilator flying coaster at Paramount's Carowinds, and a gaggle of spinning coasters. Includes a photo gallery.
