Paramount's Carowinds
Toboggan Nordique
  • Zig-Zag Wild Mouse, 41 feet tall, 11-mph top speed
  • La Ronde
  • Montreal, Quebec
  • (514) 397-2000
Also engaged in a Six-Flags makeover, the Canadian park gets a Wild Mouse ride to complement its arsenal of roller coasters.

Canyon Blaster

  • Steel mine train, 56 feet tall, 45-mph top speed
  • The Great Escape
  • Lake George, New York
  • (518) 792-3500
Another Six-Flags operated park, The Great Escape inherited its new mine train from Opryland where it was known as the Rock 'n Roller Coaster. It features two lift hills and a double helix.

Runaway Raptor

  • Junior inverted, 49 feet tall, 26-mph top speed
  • Paramount's Carowinds
  • Charlotte, North Carolina (on the border at South Carolina)
  • (800) 888-4386
The park's 12th coaster is a tame inverted model. Like all inverted coasters, the cars will hang suspended beneath the track and riders' legs will dangle. The Runaway Raptor will not include any inversions.

The Spider

  • The Spider photo
  • Spinning coaster, 53 feet tall, 38-mph top speed
  • Lagoon
  • Farmington (near Salt Lake City), Utah
  • (800) 748-5246
A first for North America, The Spider's cars will spin freely on the track. The amount of spin will be determined by the weight of the passengers and their distribution. Track features include a 360-degree carousel turn.

Swamp Thing

  • Junior inverted, 48 feet tall, 26-mph top speed
  • Wild Adventures
  • Valdosta (near the Florida border), Georgia
  • (800) 808-0872
Wild Adventures, the park-zoo hybrid, has really been on a tear lately with new attractions. This year, they introduce a junior inverted coaster, similar to Carowinds' Runaway Raptor. Swamp Thing, however, will whisk riders and their dangling feet over the alligator exhibit. Basketball players may want to sit this one out.
