Holy Theme Park!
Monday August 27, 2007
Since Opryland USA closed a few years ago, the Nashville area has gone without a major theme park. But its park-poor status appears to be changing. A few days ago, I reported about the Ole' South USA theme park and resort that is under development near Nashville. A second entry, Bible Park USA, is also in the works. According to its developers, the park would be a for-profit, non-evangelical, non-denominational exploration of Old- and New-Testament Bible stories and themes through whiz-bang, Disney-caliber attractions. The proposed park would include a working Galilean Village and rides such as The Exodus Experience, which would simulate the parting of the Red Sea. The folks behind Bible Park USA are building the Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, SC that is scheduled to open in spring 2008. Among the project's designers is BRC Imagination Arts, creators of attractions such as Back to Neverland at Disney-MGM Studios and Mystery Lodge at Knott's Berry Farm. There are no details about projected opening dates. The developers have not announced any plans for roller coasters either. If they do build a thrill machine, here's my suggestion for a name: The Holy Roller.
