Universal's Universe Gets Bigger
Monday May 14, 2007
Call it the revenge of the Revenge of the Mummy. The main character from the wild ride that's been wowing crowds at Universal Studios parks in Florida and California will be returning to his Middle East roots when Universal Studios Dubailand comes to the United Arab Emirates. Slated to open in 2010, the park will also feature the Jurassic Park River Adventure, a roller coaster themed to King Kong, and a ride based on Aladdin. (I know what you're thinking, but Disney doesn't own the rights to the "Arabian Nights" books on which the Aladdin story is based.) There is a Universal park in Japan and one on the way to Singapore as well. (And Universal used to have a stake in a theme park in Spain.) The Dubai Universal park is part of a massive development that is transforming the United Arab Emirates into the region's premier tourist destination.
