Universal Hollywood Monkeys Around with Studio Tour

Monday April 3, 2006
When Universal first opened its Hollywood gates to the public in 1964, its only attraction was a tram tour through the backlots and behind the scenes of its working movie studios. It has since evolved into a full-day theme park complete with wild rides such as the Revenge of the Mummy and T2: 3-D, but the heart and soul of the park remains its wonderful tram tour. (It also spawned similar parks in Orlando and Japan. Universal Studios Florida, which is chiefly a theme park, briefly offered a tram tour when it debuted, but quickly abandoned it.) The Studio Tour will be getting a makeover with some new features and effects, including a chase scene from the upcoming film Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. Expect some near-miss street racing and, in typical Universal fashion, an explosive pyrotechnic finale. The tour will also take guests to Skull Island from the recent King Kong remake and onto the movie sets from Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. According to the park, the new features, which will debut this spring, represent the biggest overhaul of the tour in more than ten years.
