Feast on Meal Worms (for a Good Cause)

Tuesday May 3, 2005
For the life of me, I don't understand the appeal of most reality TV shows. Why would people want to risk embarrassment, engage in backstabbing, and/or eat things that are completely gross? I guess it's partly the lure of the spotlight along with the lure of the big bucks that go to the winners. Universal Studios Florida (and its sister park in Hollywood) will be presenting Fear Factor Live, an audience participation stadium show based on the hit NBC program. To kick off the attraction, the Florida park has a promotion in which it is offering the spotlight, but in a twist, the winners will have to PAY big bucks. With opening bids starting at $2500, Universal is offering a live audition/grand opening vacation package on eBay that ends May 12. The winners will get to hurl squid and engage in other wacky stunts in a bid to appear on the television show next season. The package also includes airfare, hotel accommodations, park tickets, and other goodies. All proceeds will benefit Give Kids the World, a resort that offers children with life-threatening illnesses and their families a chance to visit Florida's theme parks.
What's New at Theme Parks in 2005?
