Six Flags Blowin' in the California Wind
Thursday February 17, 2005
Waterworld USA, a huge water park in California's Bay Area, will be getting a slight name tweak when it opens for the season in May: Six Flags Waterworld Concord. The park had already been owned and operated by Six Flags; the name change makes the Six Flags connection more obvious. Along with the new moniker, the park will be debuting a Tornado funnel ride. For the uninitiated, a Tornado sends riders in 4-person cloverleaf tubes careening up and down the sides of a giant funnel that's turned on its side. You can see photos of the wild ride and a review at my feature of New Jersey's Mountain Creek water park. The popular Tornado rides are blowing into water parks everywhere. Six Flags alone has plans to debut six of the funnel rides this season. There is another Waterworld USA park in Sacramento, California. Six Flags did not indicate whether that park would also be getting a new name.
