Six Flags Ride'll Rattle You

By November 13, 2012

Follow me on:

When it first opened in 1992, Rattler, the wooden coaster at what was then known as simply Fiesta Texas rattled riders, but not in a good way. Its 161-foot drop into the quarry that runs through the park unnerved passengers with its excessive G-forces and uncomfortable ride. Modifications were later made to shorten the drop, but the ride was never a fan favorite. That may change in 2013.

An extensive makeover will increase the drop to 171 feet and add new elements, including an inversion. Say what? How will that make the wooden coaster more comfortable you ask? Because the ride, which will be rechristened Iron Rattler, will replace its wooden track with an innovative steel track -- but not a tubular steel track like a traditional steel coaster. Sound confusing? I'll help you sort it all out, and help you understand why the reborn ride will likely rattle passengers in a good way when it opens at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Read my Iron Rattler preview.

  • Outlaw Run- Another innovative wooden coaster opening next year at Silver Dollar City.
  • GateKeeper- Debuting in 2013 at Cedar Point.
