With the incredible popularity of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the bespectacled boy wizard has become the de facto face of Islands of Adventure. Universal Studios Florida, however, has had a number of characters vying for the spotlight, including The Simpsons, Woody Woodpecker, and Nickelodeon toons such as SpongeBob SquarePants. Minions, the adorable, banana-craving creatures from Despicable Me seem to be stealing the spotlight at Universal Orlando's original park lately. They are featured in the new Superstar Parade, have a prominent role in the new Cinematic Spectacular nighttime show, can be seen minion-mingling throughout the park, and are the stars of the new Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride. As a Universal property (as opposed to the licensed deals the park has with other studios, such as Fox for The Simpsons) and with a Despicable Me sequel due in 2013, I'm anticipating the minions will hog even more of the park's spotlight.
I had a chance to experience Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, which I adored. Located in the same building as the former Jimmy Neutron and Hanna-Barbera rides, DMMM represents the next evolution in motion simulator attractions. Read my review.
