Have you heard about the bird that collided recently with a 12-year-old passenger aboard Kingda Ka, one of the world's fastest coasters, at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey? The story has been making the rounds and even caught the attention of my colleague, Melissa Mayntz, About.com's Guide to Birding. As it turns out, the bird in question (or perhaps more accurately, the former bird in question) was a rock pigeon. The young boy suffered minor injuries; as for the pigeon, the only consolation is that he probably never knew what hit him.

OK, simply based on the fact that this article mentions Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ, I’m leaving this comment. For those of you with young kids in the northern NJ area, you may want to check out “The Land of Make Believe” in Hope, NJ. Very affordable and alot of fun for young kids. Just saying, Great Adventure is great, but if your kids are younger, the Land of Make Believe makes for a great day trip.
