Imagineers Rev Up Disney California Adventure

By June 18, 2012

Follow me on:

After five years of anticipation, the centerpiece attraction of Disney California Adventure's radical makeover, Radiator Springs Racers, finally debuted last week. It was worth the wait. If you get the chance to motor west, take Disney's way, it's the highway that's the best. Read my review of the glorious E-Ticket attraction based on the Pixar film, Cars, and get your kicks on the mythical Route 66.

Yeah, but is it worth the 2.5 – 3.5 or even six-hour wait it’s been getting? I could (and did) do the five year wait at home. ;-)

As much as I love Radiator Springs Racers and theme parks in general, I’d never wait 3 hours for any form of entertainment. Get there early and get a Fastpass.

OK. I’ve done – as in the attractions – Cars Land. It seemed kinda, well, small to me. Prolly because of all the hype I’ve been reading (elsewhere, of course). F’rinstance, I kept reading about how Buena Vista St was DCA’s Main Street. So, unconsciously at least, I expected it to be as long as Main St, which obviously it isn’t.

Very helpful cast members and very happy guests did add to the enjoyment. I liked Radiator Springs Racers. It was still light when I entered and dark when I got out. And yes, by all means use the single rider line. Standby was 3 hrs; single rider, although not posted, was about 45 min. Guess I was looking for air time that I didn’t achieve.

Mater was OK. I wonder how they do the different tables, but other than that, it reminded me of a Scrambler. With Mater singing. Posted time was maybe 20 min; don’t think it was that long.

And this is where we get to agree to disagree. I loved Luigi’s Flying Tires! Yeah, I’m a Flying Saucer vet and I guess it’s like riding a bike; I flew across the – what, showroom? Also figuered out how to get more beach balls after I’d thrown the one I had. And all in what, 2 1/2 min? I think the wait was about 30 min.

Also had a good meal at Flo’s. Not sure why all the Cast Members in Cars Land are human, but I guess the same could be said about Toon Town.
