Legoland Owner Snaps Together Deal for Cypress Gardens

By , About.com GuideJanuary 17, 2010

The shuttered Cypress Gardens may not be shuttered for long. The British firm, Merlin Entertainments Group, snapped up the venerable Florida landmark and may have plans to transform it into a Legoland park. Merlin operates a number of attractions around the world and is owned by The Blackstone Group, an investment firm that recently bough Busch Entertainment Corp. and its parks, including SeaWorld and Busch Gardens. According to the Tampa Tribune, Merlin will disclose its plans for the Cypress Gardens property later this week. Apparently, the new owner is obliged to maintain the manicured gardens section of the park. A tip of the mouse-eared hat is in order to park rumor-meister Lance Hart at Screamscape who broke the story.

We went to Disney World about 5 years ago and at the time purchased a package that gave us priority seating at many of the shows in the theme parks. We are going back again in several weeks and I am wondering if it is possible to purchase the same type of situation now.

Thanks,

Hi Bill-
Thanks for writing. As far as I know, the only show for which you could get guaranteed seating is Fantasmic! (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) as part of the Fantasmic! Dinner Package. The deal includes dinner at Mama Melrose, Hollywood & Vine, or Brown Derby and seating at the nightly Fantasmic! show in an area reserved for package guests. For more info and to reserve a spot, call 1-407-WDW-DINE. Have a great trip!
