A Grave Situation at Six Flags

By , About.com Guide   September 17, 2009

Follow me on:

It's almost the Halloween season, and that means it's almost time to kick off Fright Fest at the Six Flags parks. Perhaps the most frightening thing for Six Flags this year is the bankruptcy reorganization it faces. In past years, the weird folks at Six Flags have given us the opportunity to do gross things during Fright Fest such as eat live hissing cockroaches--all in the name of good fun (and fright), of course. This year, Six Flags Over Georgia will celebrate the spooky and the freaky by inviting guests to be buried alive. Yes, you read that correctly: BURIED ALIVE.

For an additional fee (and really, who wouldn't want to cough up some extra cash to be buried alive), Fright Fest visitors can participate in something called "The Last Ride." According to the park, gravediggers will toss participants into a hearse, drive them to the cemetery, throw them in a coffin, and shovel dirt on top of them. Oh, did I mention that there will be bugs inside the coffin? Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Other Six Flags parks will offer different, and decidedly less outrageous, Fright Fest haunted mazes, shows, attractions, and events. The parks cater to young children with afternoon programming featuring the Looney Tunes characters. After dark, Fright Fest is geared more to the PG-13-and-up crowd, although some parks maintain scare-free zones for the young 'uns at night as well. To get a complete rundown of all the weird, wacky, and spooky fun, check out my Six Flags Fright Fest 2009 Guide.

The way Six Flags in Ga. is under water, will they have anything going on for Halloween?

Hi philygirl-

Thanks for writing. Fright Fest starts Oct. 2. SFOG says that it will reopen THIS weekend (Sept. 26). But that does look like a LOT of water. More info here:
