The owners of Dreamland, the classic UK seaside amusement park in Margate, Kent, announced their plans to close and redevelop the property in 2003. A group formed to save the beloved park, however, and, according to UltimateRollercoaster.com, a recent grant will help move their plans forward. The Save Dreamland Campaign hopes to not only preserve the seaside park and many of its attractions such as the circa-1920 Scenic Railway wood coaster, but also showcase historic rides from other shuttered parks. The Dreamland Trust has been collecting rides, many of which are the last remaining examples of their kind, for the project. Dreamland and other celebrated amusement parks are pieces of living history that resonate deeply with generations of visitors. It's heartwarming to see preservation efforts such as this.
