Six Flags Mexico Closed Due to Outbreak
Thursday April 30, 2009
A ride on a Six Flags coaster can induce screams, watery eyes, and weak knees. The thrill ride symptoms quickly vanish, however. Fears that throngs of visitors to Six Flags Mexico could perpetuate the swine flu virus and contract more serious symptoms have led to the park's temporary closure. According to Reuters, government officials ordered the park closed at least through May 5. Not much of a Cinco de Mayo, eh? Other public gathering places in Mexico City, which has been hit particularly hard by the outbreak, have also been shutting down. As reports of outbreaks surface in the U.S. and around the world, parks and other attractions and travel-related businesses brace for a possible downturn in business. That's certainly not good news amid the already-challenging economy.
