Take the Poll: How Will the Economy Affect Your Park Visits?

Tuesday November 11, 2008
Walt Disney World recently reported that its attendance is off and its advanced bookings are down. The Florida resort is offering a doozy of a promotion to keep its reservations humming and turnstiles clicking. Regional park chains Six Flags and Cedar Fair (which operates Cedar Point, Kings Island, Knott's Berry Farm, and a bunch of other parks), however, announced modest attendance increases and fairly robust net income for the third quarter as compared to last year. The reports would seem to indicate that the seasonal parks have an advantage over the major Florida and California destination parks during these cash-strapped times. What do you think? Given the precarious state of the economy, will you be rethinking your park plans? Take the poll. And please fire away with additional thoughts by clicking on "Comments" below.

Thanks for taking the poll. Got more to say? Click on "Comments" below.

I plan on visiting several parks this year, including Cedar Point, King’s Island, Valleyfair, and Holiday World. The economy can’t stop my vacationing.

I plan to go to as many parks as I did this year, however, I tend to go to local parks any way. I live in Central Indiana and the farthest I went this past summer was Erie, PA. I do however plan to go to Universal in Florida, but that is only because I got some free tickets.

Joe and Andy-

Thanks for writing. As the results show, most of those taking the poll plan to visit parks regardless of the economy. I think that during difficult financial times, folks still find ways to go to movies, concerts, sporting events, parks, and other forms of entertainment.

(4) Karen Dennis says:

As a passholder of SFNE, I visit Superman, Ride of Steel 2-3 x a week during the season. As a member of ACE, I plan visits to other parks depending on events. Having ERT at Cedar Point during Coastermania in June is worth the nine hour car ride one way and the cost. I visit WDW 2 plus times a year, well, because it’s Disney! Life is too short, gotta ride!
