Darien Lake Revs Up New Coaster with Orange County Choppers

Friday May 2, 2008
The MotoCoaster coming to Darien Lake, near Buffalo, New York, was already getting ride fans excited. Instead of a traditional coaster train, riders will sit two across atop motorcycle-style seats on the new attraction. Somewhat reminiscent of the long-gone Steeplechase ride at Coney Island, which featured horses instead of typical coaster seats (and which has inspired modern-day steed-mounted coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in England and Knott's Berry Farm in California), the MotoCoaster will use 21st-century magnetic launch technology to accelerate the coaster from 0 to 30 mph in 3 seconds. Now, Darien Lake has announced that the Teutul family, owners of Orange County Choppers (OCC) and stars of the Learning Channel's popular American Chopper, will partner with the park for the coaster. The ride has been renamed Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster, and OCC crew members will be visiting the park, starting with an appearance on May 16 to debut the attraction. The Teutuls will be building a custom chopper for Darien Lake, which the park will display at the ride. Also, guests at the park will be able to win an OCC bike designed with custom Darien Lake graphics.
