After weeks of delays and speculation, Six Flags New England has confirmed that its 2008 marquee attraction, The Dark Knight Coaster, will not open this season. The park apparently jumped the gun and began construction on the indoor coaster before it had the proper permits from the city of Agawam. According to the Springfield (MA) Republican, city officials halted construction on the Batman-themed attraction after they determined the ride did not meet certain building code requirements. The park says it has no future plans to build the coaster at the Massachusetts park. The park chain will place elements of the attraction in storage and will likely build The Dark Knight at another park next season. In place of the cancelled ride, Six Flags New England will present Glow in the Park, a nighttime parade that will incorporate the creative talents of designers who have developed projects for Universal and Disney theme parks as well as Cirque du Soleil.
