California Dreaming

Tuesday February 5, 2008
Walt Disney's plans for New Orleans Square at Disneyland included a charming apartment above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. He wanted a comfortable place where he and his family could stay overnight, and where he could welcome friends and special guests. Disney never lived to see his grand plans realized, but four decades later, Imagineers have used the original illustrations as a guide and transformed the space into the Disneyland Dream Suite. On most days during the 2008 Year of a Million Dreams event, one lucky winner who happens to be in the right place at the right time (and his or her chosen guests) will get to stay in the suite and spend the night in Disneyland. Take a photo tour of the unique suite, which includes exclusive shots I took last week during a pre-opening visit, and discover some of the "good night kisses," whimsical effects conjured by the Imagineers. Photo: At the touch of a "good night kiss" switch, the ceiling of one of the suite's master bedrooms is transformed into a starry night sky. ©Arthur Levine, 2008. Licensed to About.com.
