Get Your Moto Running at Darien Lake
Tuesday January 15, 2008
While the New York amusement park hasn't confirmed anything yet, the deafening buzz claims that Darien Lake, near Buffalo, will be debuting the MotoCoaster this season. A compact, launched, steel coaster, the ride will forego a traditional lift hill and use magnetic motors to accelerate from 0 to 30 mph in three seconds. It will soar 44 feet and follow a figure-eight layout. The MotoCoaster will feature especially unique seats. Instead of a traditional coaster train, riders will sit two across atop motorcycle-style seats. Passengers on the Pony Express, a similar coaster under construction and scheduled to open this spring at Knott's Berry Farm in California, will mount seats that resemble horses. Darien Lake, which had been part of the Six Flags family until the park chain sold it last year, offers a water park, campground, hotel, and performance shed in addition to its amusement park. Among its rides is the highly regarded Ride of Steel coaster.
