Rooms with a Water View--and a Slice of Pie?

Thursday January 10, 2008
In a few weeks, the KeyLime (sic) Cove indoor water park resort will open in Gurnee, Illinois (near Chicago and Milwaukee and adjacent to Six Flags Great America). The lushly landscaped, tropical-themed park will offer the usual water park suspects, including a lazy river, a wave pool, a bowl ride, water slides, an adults-only whirlpool (all together now: aaahhhhhh!), and a huge interactive water play station with a dump bucket--shaped like a pineapple. Among its unique features, KeyLime Cove will capitalize on an emerging technology trend at water parks and offer its bathing-suit-clad guests the ability to go "cashless." Using touch-screen kiosks and wristbands embedded with trackable chips, guests will be able to make purchases throughout the hotel resort by waving their wristbands. The bands will even replace room keys and room cards. Its restaurants should also be quite unique. One of the principals behind the resort is David W. Anderson, better known as restaurateur "Famous Dave" and the founder of the Rainforest Cafe chain. I'd imagine Key Lime Pie would be a popular choice on the dessert menu.
