No Kids Allowed...at Disney World?
Monday January 7, 2008
It may be a small world after all, but small children are no longer welcome at Victoria and Albert's, the swankiest restaurant at Walt Disney World. The minimum age to enter the hushed dining room, where prices start at $125 per person (and can run considerably higher), is now 10 years old. Located at the Grand Floridian Resort, Victoria and Albert's is a fine dining establishment that offers seven-course meals and requires men to wear jackets and women to wear dresses or pantsuits. The restaurant says that it imposed the ban to help preserve Victoria and Albert's "adult experience." While the kid-centric Disney World has caught some flack for banning kids from one of its restaurants, the tony eatery is really no place for fidgety children. Besides, who wants to pay $125 for chicken nuggets? What are your thoughts? Did WDW bungle by restricting kids at the restaurant? Would you want to take young children to Victoria and Albert's? (Hey, if you can afford the tab, maybe you could invite me to join you for your next meal. I'm over 10.) Do you have any horror stories about theme park vacation meals ruined by bratty kids? I teach Services Marketing in Montreal QC. This is a smart move from Disney. About the same move in the Palo restaurant in the Disney Magic.
I really wish that all restuarants would offer kid and no-kid seating akin to the smoking and no-smoking sections of yesteryear. I’m sorry but it really seems to me that parents today are not placing proper boundries for their children, especially in the area on “how to behave in public”.
The bar area should especially be off limits to diners with children and I believe we are over due on seeing legislation that addresses this. Bars, even if they’re internally located within a restuarant are not the place for children.
For those of you who think everywhere should be kid friendly or child allowed: too bad.
Absolutely they did the right thing. It’s annoying to have children screaming and yelling all the time at a meal, particularly one that is meant for adults. Totally agree with the notion of kid vs. no kid seating. Adults make the world go around and, more importantly, are the ones spending the money. It’s about time to cater to us.
