More Wiggling and Choo-Chooing at Six Flags
Thursday October 25, 2007
To continue its plan to balance its thrill-heavy parks with more family friendly attractions, Six Flags will be introducing a new Wiggles World area to The Great Escape (a Six Flags-owned property) in Lake George, New York next season. The land will appeal to the young children who follow the popular performers and will include oversized cartoony props, Wiggles-themed rides, a cafe, and (of course) a Wiggles-loaded store. Targeting the same young demographic, Six Flags Over Georgia (near Atlanta) and Six Flags Magic Mountain (in California, north of L.A.), will roll out Thomas the Tank Engine lands next spring. The parks will feature rides aboard Thomas trains, play areas, characters from the show, and, yep, Thomas & Friends-stocked stores. The Wiggles and Thomas news may thrill young kids and their families, but Six Flags isn't skimping on the thrills for the 2008 season. I think Six Flags doesn’t get it. A family ride should be a ride that the ENTIRE family enjoys. Disney, and Universal, to a lesser extent, have perfected this art through the use of “dark rides”. The rides may be flume-based or people movers, such as Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Test Track, Spiderman or Men in Black. Now those are “Family Rides”.
Six Flags should consider dark rides based on D.C. comic heroes.
