Disney World's Main Street, U.S.A.-- with an Emphasis on the U.S.A.
Tuesday June 19, 2007
Fireworks light up the night skies every evening at Walt Disney World's theme parks, but on and around July 4 the pyrotechnics--the traditional way to celebrate the nation's Independence Day--provide an extra jolt of patriotism. For a group of new Americans, Disney's fireworks will be all the more poignant this year. On the morning of July 4, Florida's Magic Kingdom will host a Naturalization ceremony for 1000 immigrants on Main Strreet, U.S.A. (where else?). The event will be open to the public and will include Gloria Estefan performing the national anthem, a keynote address by U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL), and a performance of “God Bless the U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood. By the way, if you're planning to head to Walt Disney World this summer, be forewarned that the Haunted Mansion at the Magic Kingdom and Spaceship Earth at Epcot will be closed for renovations.
