Cedar Point's Maverick Reopens this Weekend? You're Darn Tootin'.

Friday May 25, 2007
Maverick, Cedar Point's 17th coaster (God bless 'em), debuted a few weeks ago and promptly closed on May 8 for adjustments. According to riders who were able to sample the Western-themed coaster while it was running, Maverick was excessively rough in parts. The Ohio park says that one of the ride's features, a heartline roll, was removed and replaced with a simple s-curve. Incredibly, Cedar Point and the coaster's manufacturer made all of the changes and concluded the inspection and testing process in less than three weeks. The park announced that Maverick would reopen this Saturday, May 26, in time for Memorial Day weekend and the launch of the summer season. While it will lose one inversion, Maverick still includes what the park refers to as a "twisted horseshoe roll." The "terrain" coaster will hug the ground and offer two launches.
