New Chapter for New Hampshire's Story Land
Monday May 7, 2007
One of the most charming theme parks has a new owner. The Kennywood folks are taking over Story Land, a park geared for children 12 and under that's set in New Hampshire's majestic White Mountains. With an obvious sense of pride, a keen attention to detail, and a devoted mission to please and delight guests, two generations of the Morell family have been operating Story Land since 1954. The park deftly mixes nostalgia, whimsy--an exhibit of the Three Little Pigs features three real, squealing little pigs, for example--and contemporary fun such as Dr. Geyser's Remarkable Raft Ride and the Polar Coaster. Like Santa's Village, another wonderful White Mountains theme park that dates back to the 1950s, Storyland offers incredible value with reasonable prices for admission and food as well as complimentary parking, strollers, wheelchairs, and pet kennels. It's likely that Kennywood Entertainment, which has an impressive roster of parks including Idlewild (also designed for younger kids), Sandcastle Waterpark, and Kennywood, all in Pennsylvania, and Lake Compounce in Connecticut, will be great stewards of the venerable Story Land and carry on the Morell family's tradition.
