Elvis' Mystery (Coaster) Train

Friday April 27, 2007
The Zippin Pippin, reportedly Elvis Presley's favorite roller coaster, left the building when the Memphis amusement park, Libertyland, closed in 2005. A development group had planned to move and rebuild the circa-1923 coaster as part of an entertainment development called Carolina Crossroads in Roanoke Rapids, NC. According to the Memphis Flyer, however, the company donated the coaster to Save Libertyland, a newly formed group that wants the city of Memphis to create a community park on the site of the shuttered amusement park and include the Zippin Pippin as well as the historic Grand Carousel. The Carolina Crossroads folks are hanging on to one of the original cars from the ride and plan to build a replica of the famous coaster.
