Is Disney Planning More California Adventures?

Monday March 26, 2007
One of the most quoted Walt-isms is that "Disneyland will never be completed...as long as there is imagination left in the world." While Disneyland and the Disneyland resort have evolved considerably since Walt first opened his theme park over five decades ago, the hemmed-in California property has never had the luxury of space that its Florida counterpart has to freely capitalize on the company's imagination. That may be changing, however. According to the Los Angeles Times, Disney has some ambitious expansion plans for Anaheim, but is keeping them closely guarded under its Sorcerer's Apprentice hat. Apparently, the company is quietly buying property adjacent to its resort, and sources indicate that a third theme park may be in the works along with new hotels and expansion of its existing hotels, time-share vacation units (which have been a huge hit in Florida), and permanent West Coast berths for new Disney Cruise Line ships. The California and Florida resorts have seen a strong rebound in business after a post-9/11 slowdown, and the time, it seems, is right to turn imagination into theme park reality.
