Plenty of Thrills, Easy on the Chills, at Blizzard Beach

Tuesday November 14, 2006
NOTE: Blizzard Beach is currently closed for refurbishment and will reopen on January 7, 2007.

All of the seasonal water parks have closed, and most folks are getting ready for blizzards, not planning trips to the beach. But Blizzard Beach, the wacky and wild water park at Walt Disney World, is open year-round. You've gotta love the park's high-concept backstory: A freak Florida snowstorm prompted Disney to build a ski resort. After the snow melted (duh!), the resort repurposed the ski slopes into water slides. Amid all of Blizzard Beach's cheerful goofiness, there are some real thrills, however. Summit Plummet, which is among the world's tallest and fastest water slides, is also one of the most terrifying (in a good way, though) attractions anywhere. Read more about Blizzard Beach.
