North Carolina All Shook Up over Coaster

Wednesday November 8, 2006
Suspicious minds want to know: What happened to Elvis Presley's favorite roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin, after the Memphis amusement park, Libertyland, closed in 2005? According to the Commercial Appeal, the famous woodie will find a new home in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The circa-1923 coaster will be featured as part of an entertainment development called Carolina Crossroads. The project will also include a music theater and retail shops. Dollywood had expressed interest in the historic ride, but decided against purchasing it after the park determined it would have to burn through a hunka-hunka lotta dough to reconfigure the coaster and the park.
