Psst. The Coaster is Clear.

Friday May 19, 2006
In what may be either an absurd prank or a horribly misguided heist, thieves apparently stole a roller coaster. You read that correctly. We're not talking about a scale model or a toy. We're talking about an honest-to-goodness 20-ton roller coaster complete with track, a train, lift chain, and motor. According to the Edmonton Sun, German authorities are trying to make sense of the report that the Big Dipper, a portable roller coaster valued at over $28,000, was stolen from a truck that was parked in Bischofsheim. The ride was en route to a fair. The boneheads who made off with the plunder may not have thought this one out too well. If the sight of a working roller coaster doesn't blow their cover, the sounds of the screaming riders will probably do them in.
