Kingda Kan't--but Video Looks Great
Thursday May 18, 2006
Kingda Ka, the much-touted, record-breaking (world's fastest and tallest) coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is temporarily closed--again. After sitting out most of its debut season last year due to a malfunction, the rocket coaster is grounded, at least for now, according to the Six Flags Web site. While Six Flags will likely have the ride up and running soon, you can take a virtual ride on the coaster now and learn more about it by checking out a Kingda Ka video clip from The History Channels' "Modern Marvels" program. The slick video includes interviews with one of the ride's engineers, info about the technology behind the ride, ride footage, and a look back at the history of roller coasters. (This is The History Channel after all.) Coaster junkies (and more casual fans) will love the onboard ride footage and other scenes such as a tour of the hydraulic building that powers the coaster.
