High Blood Pressure and Stroke Caused Death of Mission: SPACE Rider

Monday April 17, 2006
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the 49-year-old woman who felt ill after riding Mission: SPACE at Walt Disney World's Epcot last week and died a couple days later suffered a stroke due to severe high blood pressure. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the chief medical examiner for Florida's Orange County reported that he will make more complete information available after he completes testing in four to six weeks, but did state that the autopsy revealed "evidence of severe, long-standing high blood pressure." Disney has posted numerous signs in front of the ride and throughout the queue warning guests with high blood pressure and other ailments that they should not board the attraction.
