Another Coaster on the Way for Kennywood?
Thursday March 23, 2006
Historic Kennywood Park has its eye on the future. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the classic trolley park has been scooping up land around its property and plans to build an indoor water park resort as well as a major attraction (likely a roller coaster) and other rides. Kennywood officials haven't given a firm timetable, but said that they are tying their expansion plans to a nearby highway that will be built over the next few years. The park is located in West Mifflin, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh. Other parks, including Cedar Point, The Great Escape, and Paramount's Kings Island, have built indoor water park resorts to turn their seasonal properties into year-round vacation destinations. Kennywood, which opens for the season on May 6, will be debuting Swing Shot, an extreme swing ride powered by compressed air.
