Six Flags Catapults Two Rides to New England
Friday February 24, 2006
Massachusetts' Six Flags New England will inherit two rides this season from the park chain's shuttered Astroworld. Catapult, known as a Sky Swatter by its manufacturer (and looking for all the world like a humungous double-paddled fly swatter), will hurtle daredevils 360 degrees forwards and backwards over 100 feet in the air. This is one of those thrill rides that more squeamish folks look at and wonder why anyone in their right mind would ever willingly get on it. The other new addition will be Splash Water Falls. Sort of a combination of a log flume and a river raft ride, the attraction will send spinning rafts careening down a 60-foot tall track filled with spirals, drops, and water cannons. The family ride will replace the park's log flume. Six Flags Astroworld in Houston closed at the end of last season. Some of its coasters and rides will find new homes at the chain's other parks.
