Six Flags Set to Open New York's First Indoor Water Park

Thursday January 26, 2006
Folks in the Northeast U.S. who want to enjoy some indoor water park fun have to travel quite a distance. The nearest major resort offering year-round water slides is the recently opened Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains. But the drought is nearly over. In a few weeks, Six Flags will be opening the Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark, its first water park resort. Located in Lake George, New York (across the street from the Great Escape theme park), the Adirondack-themed resort will be equidistant from New York City and Boston (approx. 3.5 hours) and should attract a lot of curiosity and interest from people in the region for whom indoor water parks will be a new concept. The 38,000-square-foot water park will feature Boogie Bear Surf, a FlowRider surfing attraction, the Tak-it-eesi Creek lazy river, the Tall Timbers Treehouse, an interactive water play structure with a tipping bucket, and--of course--a bunch of water slides. Its roof will allow sunshine in so that guests will be able to work on their tans, even in the winter. The full-featured resort will also offer 200 suites, a huge arcade, restaurants, and meeting facilities. I have a few photos of the indoor water park under construction.
