Legoland Looks to Piece Together a New Park

No longer owned by the company known for its shiny plastic bricks, Legoland parks around the world will continue to feature attractions based on the famous toys. The new owners, Merlin Entertainments Group, announced that it plans to augment its successful Legoland California with another location in North America. It hope to choose a site shortly and open the new park within the next three to five years. Merlin also announced that in 2006, the California park will open a new land, Pirate Shores, that will feature a Pirate Splash Battle attraction, a huge interactive water play structure, and a small flume ride. The company says that it hopes to transform its SoCal Legoland into a destination resort by adding a hotels, and possibly a second gated theme park.
