Big Easy Music and Big Price Hike at Universal Orlando
Thursday January 12, 2006
As it has for the past few years, Universal Studios Florida will host a Mardi Gras celebration modeled after New Orleans' rollicking party this spring. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the event will take on special significance this year. Universal will be bringing in eleven authentic Big Easy musical acts to perform at its Mardi Gras. In addition to providing work for the struggling musicians (and some great entertainment for guests), the park will make a $10,000 donation to a New Orleans' foundation that has been established to aid the artists. Headline acts, including Bonnie Raitt, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Hall and Oates, will also perform on Saturdays at Universal as part of its Mardi Gras concert series. The Mardi Gras event will run from February 11 to April 22. It'll cost you more to catch some beads at this year's Mardi Gras parade. Universal announced a $3.25 jump for its single-day park ticket fee to $63 (matching Walt Disney World's recent price hike). It is holding the online price at $59.75, however, and throwing in an extra four days (good for admission to one park only.)
