Too Bad EVERY Year Can't Be a 50th Anniversary
Friday December 30, 2005
Disney occupied the top five spots among North America's most-visited theme parks and the top eight spots among the world's most-visited parks, according to estimated 2005 attendance figures published by the trade publication Amusement Business and the research firm Economics Research Associates. While Disney historically hogs the charts, it's significant to note that attendance was higher at the Disney parks over last year--in some cases significantly higher. The number one park in North America and worldwide? That'd be the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, with over 16 million visitors. That's 6.5% higher, or nearly a million more visitors than last year. Occupying the number two slot, both in North America and worldwide, is California's Disneyland. It scored 14.5 million visitors, which is 8.5% higher than 2004, or more than a million additional guests. Walt Disney's original theme park celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, and all of the Disney parks joined in the festivities with a grand Happiest Celebration on Earth. Apparently, a lot of folks wanted to get in on the happy happenings. And nobody's probably happier than Disney executives and shareholders. If your New Year's resolutions include being happier, you're in luck. The happy hoopla continues at all Disney parks through the end of 2006. And speaking of happy, happy New Year everybody! Here's to a great 2006 filled with lots of exciting theme park news.
