El Topo on El Toro
Thursday December 22, 2005
One of next season's most anticipated rides is El Toro, the unique wooden coaster being built at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. Earlier this week, the construction crew topped off the huge ride by setting the tallest section, the apex of the 188-foot lift hill, into place. When it opens in the spring, El Toro will be the second-tallest woodie in the U.S. (behind Son of Beast at Paramount's Kings Island). Its blistering 70 mph top speed will also make it one of the fastest. The world's tallest, fastest coaster, Kingda Ka, debuted last season at Six Flags Great Adventure, but spent most of the season down for repairs. Most visitors to the New Jersey park in 2006, therefore, will get to experience two high-profile, high-impact coasters for the first time. Want to learn more about the new wood coaster?
